Aadhaar authentication to let you access 58 citizen-centric RTO services online

The Ministry of Road Transport has posted no less than 58 citizen-centric services including driver’s license, vehicle registration and transfer of ownership through Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has undertaken several citizen-focused reforms to further facilitate the use of transport-related services, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Providing such contactless and faceless services would go a long way in saving citizens valuable time while easing their compliance burden, MoRTH said.

As a result, attendance at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) is expected to drop significantly, leading to greater efficiency in their operation, he added.

The online services for which a citizen is required to undergo Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis include – application for learner’s permit, issuance of duplicate driving license and renewal of driving license for which the driving ability test is not required.
In addition, issuance of an international driving permit, change of address in the driver’s license, application for the transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle, among others, are also part of the online services for which a citizen is required to undergo Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis.

According to the notification issued by the ministry on September 16, anyone who does not have an Aadhaar number can avail this service in physical form by establishing the identity by physically submitting an alternative document to the respective authority in accordance with the CMVR 1989.
