British Wool shearing training courses are launched for 2022

Following the successful return of training courses in 2021, British Wool has recently launched plans for wool shearing and handling courses in 2022.

These courses have provided valuable training for over 20 years, giving shearers – experienced and novice – the opportunity to earn four levels of shearing certificates. This allows British shearers to efficiently and safely shear British wool.

Training the next generation of wool shearers and handlers has remained a key objective for British Wool, he said recently. Last year, more than 850 people took courses.

For this year, those booking classes can do so through British Wool’s new online system which is easier to use and navigate.

As in previous years, British Wool launched its exclusive training offer for young farmers in January, offering YFC members who have not yet completed accredited courses the chance to work towards a Blue Seal.

Richard Schofield, Shearing Manager at British Wool, said: “We are once again delighted to be launching our wool shearing and handling courses this year.

“Supporting the training and development of the next generation of shearers and wool handlers is crucial as we continue to work in partnership with key stakeholders to support the UK shearing industry.”
