The Edmonton Elks soccer team is expected to fill the stands at Commonwealth Stadium when the 2021 season kicks off on Saturday. It will be the very first game played here since 2019.

Tickets will be available for purchase for full capacity this time around, and there will be no separation between seats and there will be no skipped seats in the grandstands.

Elks President and CEO Chris Presson announced that the stadium could accommodate up to 55,000 people and that on Thursday the number of tickets sold was 25,000.

That said, several suggestions have been put forward to ensure everyone’s safety.

On the one hand, fans have been advised to wear masks while at the stadium, although this is not mandatory. Anyone wishing to wear a mask can purchase one at the entrance to the stadium.

Tickets for the game are only available for purchase online. This is done to avoid contact points. They are also available for purchase digitally.

Presson noted that mobile ticketing is all the rage right now. He went so far as to attribute the popularity of this trend in North America to the Elks.

Most fans are thrilled to be able to download the tickets to their phones. But a few are still trying to figure out how the whole process works.

Anyone who leaves the stadium in the middle of the event will not be able to return. In addition, specific areas will be reserved for smokers.

Presson noted that they follow safety protocols to test athletes on a daily basis. So far, none of them have tested positive for the virus.

Another safety precaution recommended by Commonwealth Stadium is asking fans not to carry any bags except those that are clear plastic or vinyl.

Small pouches without handles, such as wallets, are also allowed.

Regarding payment, the organization recommended credit and debit cards instead of cash.

In addition, there will be no self-service catering stations. Instead, they will have a system where napkins, condiments, and straws are given directly to customers who buy food.

There will also be several stations equipped with non-contact hand sanitizers. These will be installed in different places of the stadium. Similarly, the toilets will be equipped with touchless sink faucets, paper towel dispensers and soap dispensers.

In the public transport sector, supporters will not be allowed to park in areas near the stadium during match days and other events taking place there. The only batch of people allowed to park on the streets are residents with valid permits.

Edmonton’s transit service will operate between park-and-ride lots across the city toward Commonwealth Stadium. The LRT is programmed to run every fifteen minutes.

Fans can reserve a slot using their mobile or LRT game ticket for 2 hours before the game and 2 hours after the game ends.

Masks are always mandatory when riding public transport.

Norwich City are bracing for the return of home and away supporters to Carrow Road on Tuesday night, with Gillingham expected to provide the pre-season opposition.

The Canaries have had to cancel their last two friendlies, against Coventry and Sheffield United, due to a small number of positive Covid-19 tests in their squad.

City have gone out of their way to get this under control and ensure this week’s last two preseason games go ahead, against the Gills tomorrow (8pm) and Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday (2pm).

Daniel Farke’s side are set to start their pre-season campaign on Saturday 14 August, when Liverpool travel to Carrow Road for a televised kick-off at 5.30 p.m.

As of this writing, the Canaries are believed to be planning Tuesday’s game to go as planned, with visitors to League One having put up for sale their allocation of 300 tickets to the first leg.

City played four games with fans last season, with a maximum of 2,000 allowed, the last of which was a 2-0 win over Cardiff just before Christmas.

The last full house before the pandemic was a 1-0 victory over Leicester in the Premier League in February 2020.

Most areas of the lower level City Stand, South Stand and Barclay Stand have been put up for sale, with City not placing a limit on sales and being able to open other areas if demand required additional seating.

Some areas of the city stand have been sold and the central parts of the south stand show limited availability, the remaining areas still show good availability.

Supporters are encouraged to purchase tickets online before the match, which will acquire a QR code to be used on mobile devices to be used for entry to the turnstiles.

The Carrow Road ticket office will be open from 9 a.m. on Tuesday for tickets to be purchased in person, however, this risks causing queues if fans let their tickets buy until the last hours before the game.

However, all stores in the Canaries are now cashless with only card payments accepted.

Tickets were priced at £ 10 for adults, £ 5 for over 65s and under 21 and £ 1 for under 18, but free for all season ticket holders and U18 members. Head toward canaries.co.uk for all the details.

City have not issued any Covid-19 rules regarding testing before access is allowed, on this occasion, as the club await Premier League decisions on access for those who are vaccinated or may present with a negative test result.

Face masks are encouraged, however, with a statement from the club explaining: “The club strongly recommends that supporters wear face coverings at turnstiles, move around the halls and use the toilets. It is up to the individual to wear a face cover while sitting and watching the game.

“We would like to ask supporters to remain as flexible as possible given the ever-changing Covid-19 environment with the potential for government and football authorities to change restrictions on major sporting events in the short term.”

Gillingham’s last visit to Carrow Road was in August 2010, when Norwich won 4-1 in the League Cup first round thanks to a brace each from Grant Holt and Chris Martin.

The Gills are led by former Rotherham, Leeds and Peterborough manager Steve Evans and finished 10th in League One last season.

They lost a 2-0 away friendly against Leyton Orient of Ligue 2 on Saturday, with Norwich youngster Tyrese Omotoye scoring as a trialist, and begin their championship campaign on Saturday when they host Lincoln City.

Square plans to buy out Australian fintech company Afterpay as it seeks to expand further into the burgeoning installment loan market.

Jack Dorsey’s payment firm announced the deal for $ 29 billion in shares on Sunday evening. The price tag marks a premium of around 30% over Afterpay’s last closing price.

“Square and Afterpay have a common goal,” Square CEO Dorsey said in a statement. “We have built our business to make the financial system more fair, accessible and inclusive, and Afterpay has built a brand of trust aligned with these principles.”

Shares of Afterpay in Australia jumped on the news and closed nearly 19% higher on Monday.

Square pointed out that consumers are avoiding traditional credit, especially younger buyers. The San Francisco-based payments company already offers installment loans, which have said it is a “powerful growth tool” for Square’s core sales business. It plans to integrate Afterpay into its seller and Cash App ecosystems.

Afterpay allows customers to pay in four interest-free installments and pay a fee if they miss an automated payment. Its 16 million customers will eventually be able to manage installment payments directly via Cash App. The deal is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2022.

Installment loans have been around for decades and were historically used for large purchases such as furniture. Online payment players and fintechs have been competing to launch their own version of “pay later” products for items online for a few hundred dollars.

Affirm is one of the more well-known public companies offering the opportunity to fund items in smaller monthly payments. PayPal, Klarna, Mastercard and Fiserv, American Express, Citi, and JP Morgan Chase all offer similar loan products. Apple plans to launch installment loans as part of a partnership with Goldman Sachs, Bloomberg reported last month.

CNBC Pro Stock Selections and Investment Trends:

Square also announced its second quarter results on Sunday, ahead of the previously scheduled release on Wednesday.

Gross profit increased 91% from a year ago, marking a record quarterly growth rate for the payment company. Cash App’s profit rose 94%, while the seller jumped 85% from a year ago. Net revenue excluding bitcoin was $ 1.96 billion for the quarter, an increase of 87% year-over-year.

The company’s competitor Venmo, Cash App, now has 40 million active customers who conduct monthly transactions.
