Continente restores some online services affected by a cyberattack

Continente Portuguese retailer announced that it resorted to its Continente Online and Continente Card App services, which were affected due to a cyberattack last week.

The attack brought down the Continente website and affected some services in its stores, with its main online shopping website displaying the message: “Under maintenance”. Please try again later’.

Shoppers will now be able to shop online, check and use their balance, view, retrieve and redeem coupons, and access other features.

The retailer is still working to restore certain features to the Continente Card app, such as transaction recovery and Continente Pay and new app memberships.

No Evidence of Customer Data Breach

Continente added that there was no evidence that customer data was compromised as a result of the attack.

The discovery is supported by forensic work carried out by the company in recent days.

Banking data associated with Continente Pay, Continente Online and Wells Online are not part of Modelo Continente (MC) systems and have not been compromised, he noted.

The company is working with national and international authorities to identify and punish those responsible for the cyberattack.

In March, Continente announced the launch of personalized information flyers for loyal shoppers, as part of the Sonae-owned retailer, which has stepped up its efforts to find more creative ways to connect with its customers.

Launched in pilot mode in 2020, personalized leaflets are now available to all families subscribing to the Continent Card.
