Derry’s Maritime Festival 2022: Bookings open for canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding sessions and dragon racing

Activities will be primarily based in the Agency area along the River Foyle and bookings are now open.

Partygoers can enjoy Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) yoga courtesy of Far & Wild or take part in four-person SUP Dragon races. Foyle Paddlers will offer learn-to-canoe sessions and dusk paddles, as well as hosting the annual Foyle Race.

Sit On Top Kayaking will be available with Binevenagh Adventures, while the Foyle Bubble Challenge will be run by Driftwood Canoe Club.

Off-site activities include angling and water sports at Creggan Country Park.

This special aquatic-themed area will also be dedicated to educating and informing the public on major marine topics. A custom-created VR experience will transport people from along the dock to below the Foyle to showcase the marine life that exists in Foyle and Carlingford lakes.

Loughs Agency is also delighted to launch its ‘Marine Machine’, a mobile interactive installation complete with a life-size basking shark, touch tanks and a biodiversity zone.

The Foyle Maritime Festival returns this summer for the first time since 2018, alongside the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race fleet. The five-day event runs from July 20-24 and thousands of people from around the world are expected.
