Employers and job seekers invited to participate in online career week

Employer video sessions will allow job seekers to connect with potential employers

The College of the Rockies has partnered with Kootenay Employment Services (KES) and WorkBC to host East Kootenay Online Employment Week 2022 from March 1-4. The job fair aims to connect regional job seekers with employers in the region and beyond.

“We’re excited to bring employers and people looking for new job opportunities together safely through our online careers week,” said Jenn Smith, Co-op and Employment Services Coordinator, College of the Rockies. . “Employers can register to participate until February 21 by contacting [email protected].”

To raise awareness about accessibility in the workplace, Career Week will include a featured speaker. Yat Li, Senior Accessibility Consultant at Presidents Group, was born with a congenital condition that requires him to wear prosthetic ears and a bone-anchored hearing aid.

In his presentation, Breaking Down Barriers – Job Deaf, Li will help bust myths about the costs of hiring people with disabilities, encourage employers to rethink their current hiring practices, and inspire people of diverse abilities. Li’s presentation is sponsored by Columbia Basin Trust and is free. Pre-registration is required at cotr.ca/careerfair.

Starting March 1, job seekers will be able to view job opportunity sessions in various job categories including tourism, health, finance, education, trades as well as employment opportunities. summer job. Each session will feature up to five employers talking about their company and current job openings. The employer’s detailed contact details will also be provided for follow-up.

Sessions will be available on the college website and on the Kootenay Employment Services website.

“It’s a great way for our organizations to work in partnership,” said Kerstin Renner, regional director of community development at WorkBC. “Over the past two years, we have adapted to bring this event to job seekers in the Kootenays and provide them with this great opportunity to find a new career or summer employment by showcasing jobs throughout the region.
