Nodal officer appointed for electric bus project at J&K
JAMMU – The authorities of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday appointed a noadl officer for the speedy execution of the electric bus project for the twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar, an official said.
The administration of Jammu and Kashmir is buying a fleet of 200 electric buses, 100 each for the capitals of the union territory, Jammu and Srinagar.
The Principal Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Dheeraj Gupta, has appointed the Chief Financial Officer of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) as Nodal Officer during a high-level meeting convened to review progress of the project, the official said.
JSCL and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) are the executing agencies of the project.
Officials said the meeting was informed that the Letter of Intent (LoI) had been issued to Tata Motors for the supply and operation of the electric buses.
A Letter of Intent has also been issued to Chalo Mobility Pvt Ltd to establish a digital ticketing solution compliant with the Common National Mobility Card. The contractual agreement with the two service providers will be signed shortly.
Stating that the establishment of electric bus services is a crucial project and will play an important role in the adoption of a clean mode of transport, Gupta asked the project’s implementing agencies to speed up the process and eliminate bottlenecks as soon as possible.
He ordered relevant officials to make proactive efforts to ensure that electric buses should be running soon, the official said.
The official said the introduction of electric buses in both cities will play a vital role in reducing pollution levels.
In addition, electric buses are also equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as real-time passenger information system, live tracking, panic button, tracking system, CCTV cameras, stop request, online ticket booking, QR code payments and more. security-related features, he said. — (PTI)
