Pakistani Consulate in New York Expands Online Services for Expats
NEW YORK: The Pakistani Consulate General in New York has digitized its operations and provides a range of services to overseas Pakistanis who do not require them to visit its offices, a senior Pakistani diplomat said.
Consul General Ayesha Ali told a press conference on Friday that overseas Pakistanis can now obtain power of attorney, passport, visa and NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis) online. in the comfort of their own home. They can also access the Punjab registration system and operate Roshan digital accounts, as well as use the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs portals to enter their comments or raise concerns.
Another way to keep expatriates informed of developments or to resolve their problems was the “khuli katcheries” which the Consul General said she had held with great success. As coronavirus lockdowns affected countries around the world, Ayesha Ali said the situation had helped speed up the digitization process to keep critical service at bay. She said the strengthening of the facilities for overseas Pakistanis is in accordance with the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan who sees them as “the country’s greatest asset”.
