UAE-based G42 Healthcare collaborates with Amazon Web Services

  • A global offering for R&D programs in population genomics and life sciences powered by AWS

United Arab Emirates: -G42 Healthcare, a leading Abu Dhabi-based healthcare technology company and a subsidiary of artificial intelligence and cloud computing company G42, announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS ) to develop a new global genomics, proteomics and biobanking service.

The collaboration announced at the BIO International Convention in San Diego, Calif., will aim to provide global access to G42 Healthcare’s next-generation sequencing, proteomics and data analysis capabilities to governments, genome programs from population and life science initiatives around the world. world. Representatives of G42 Healthcare and AWS attended the signing ceremony.

The transition from localized biological samples hidden in biobanks to high-quality omics data and large-scale information is transforming population health, precision medicine, life sciences R&D and agriculture. Unleashing the potential of these bioresources is costly and complex, requires major investments and often hard-to-obtain expertise. The G42 Healthcare – AWS initiative aims to enable this value in a fast, safe, reliable and affordable way.

G42 Healthcare has the largest Omics Center of Excellence in the region in Abu Dhabi, which can provide over 500,000 whole genome sequences per year.

Ashish Koshy, CEO of G42 Healthcare said: “Abu Dhabi is only a 4-hour flight from approximately 33% of the world, and 80% of the world is accessible with an 8-hour flight. Our experience facilitating the world’s most comprehensive population genomics initiative in Abu Dhabi highlights our deep understanding of how to deliver at scale, from sample management to advanced analysis. Our goal with AWS is to take capabilities that have taken years and significant resources to develop, globally and at high speed. This means working towards what we believe will be a competitive, immediately deployable and modular end-to-end service. Our offering aims to leverage comprehensive omics and bioinformatics data management solutions hosted globally on AWS at the fingertips of our customers. For us and AWS, this collaboration goes far beyond data; it is a matter of value.

Jens Dommel, Head of Public Sector Healthcare, EMEA, Amazon Web Services said, “The cooperation between G42 Healthcare and AWS is an exciting step to provide an on-demand service for multi-omics data globally. Governments and researchers can benefit from democratized access to next-generation sequencing, proteomics and data analytics, backed by the most flexible and secure cloud computing environment available today.”

The international BIO convention served as the backdrop for the collaboration to be created, as it hosts the largest gathering of decision-makers in the biotechnology industry. The event’s goal of bringing together industry leaders, governments, R&D organizations, biobank operators and pharmaceutical heavyweights to foster collaboration is exemplified by this collaboration between G42 Healthcare and AWS.
